Template Details

This project provides two pure CSS approaches to website theme switching: one uses a checkbox to toggle between two themes, and the other uses radio buttons to support any number of themes. The repository consists of HTML and CSS; after downloading, open index.html directly to see the effect, or view the online demo via GitHub Pages. The author has also written an article explaining the implementation.

Because the switching logic is driven entirely by CSS selectors and form control states, the approach involves no JavaScript runtime and is suitable as a reference implementation for theme switching in static pages or lightweight sites.

Note that the project is positioned as a demo and example code; the repository does not provide build tools, package management configuration, or framework integration instructions. The number of themes, style structure, and interaction details are subject to the actual files in the repository.

Suitable For

  • Static sites using pure HTML and CSS
  • Projects that want to avoid introducing JavaScript theme switching logic
  • Developers who need to quickly view a theme switching implementation example
  • Users who accept adjusting styles themselves based on the example code

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies HTML as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

# CSS Only Theme Switcher

## About the project

This is a website theme switcher made with CSS only. There are two different versions of this:

1. Using a checkbox to switch between two themes
2. Using radio buttons for unlimited amount of themes

I also wrote [an article on my website](https://alexandersandberg.com/theme-switcher/) explaining the functionality behind this solution, for those interested.

## Usage

[**Check it out live**](https://alexandersandberg.github.io/theme-switcher/) _or_ download the files and open `index.html` in your preferred browser.
