Template Details
Oscailte is a Jekyll blog theme published on GitHub at coogie/oscailte under the MIT license. The theme name comes from Irish and means "open". It targets Jekyll sites, provides a light, clean page appearance, and includes demo pages for both desktop and mobile layouts.
In terms of configuration, most theme settings are centralized under the oscailte key in _config.yml, covering post links, social accounts, interface text, and more. Comments are integrated through Disqus, requiring a shortname and site url to be configured, and are displayed only when JEKYLL_ENV=production; individual posts can disable comments via comments: false in their front matter. Google Analytics also only takes effect in production and passes along the user's DNT request. Homepage excerpts require show_excerpts to be enabled. Social links support Twitter, GitHub, Dribbble, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pinterest, Telegram, Keybase, and RSS, displayed as icons.
For appearance customization, the theme makes extensive use of CSS custom properties, with related variables centralized in _sass/_oscailte.scss; some properties are generated by SCSS but still exist as custom properties in the browser. There are two installation methods: set remote_theme: coogie/oscailte in _config.yml (supported by default on GitHub Pages), or add gem "oscailte" to the Gemfile, set theme: oscailte, and run bundle.
Regarding usage limitations, the README does not specify the required Jekyll version, nor does it provide information on performance or production readiness. Disqus and Google Analytics are external services, so you must set up your own accounts and comply with their terms. Licenses for third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons must be checked separately and cannot be determined solely by the code's MIT license.
Is it right for your project?

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.
The catalog identifies Jekyll as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

Below are a list of all available ones, and their default values.
```yml
oscailte:
posts_url:
google_analytics:
social:
twitter: username
github: username
dribbble: username
facebook: username
flickr: username
instagram: username
linkedin: username
mastodon: https://instance.url/@username
pinterest: username
telegram: username
keybase: username
rss: rss
### Enabling Comments (via Disqus)
Optionally, if you have a Disqus account, you can tell Jekyll to use it to show a comments
section below each post.
To enable it, add the following lines to your Jekyll site:
```yml
disqus:
shortname: my_disqus_shortname
```
You can find out more about Disqus' shortnames [here](https://help.disqus.com/installation/whats-a-shortname).
Comments are enabled by default and will only appear in production, i.e.,
`JEKYLL_ENV=production`
If you don't want to display comments for a particular post you can disable them by adding
`comments: false` to that post's YAML Front Matter.
:warning: `url`, e.g. `https://example.com`, must be set in you config file for Disqus to
work.
### Social Networks
You can add links to the accounts you have on other sites, with respective icon, by adding
one or more of the following options in your config. These usernames are nested under
`oscailte.social`, with the keys being simply the social network's name:
```yml
oscailte:
social:
twitter: jekyllrb
github: jekyll
dribbble: jekyll
facebook: jekyll
flickr: jekyll
instagram: jekyll
linkedin: jekyll
pinterest: jekyll
telegram: jekyll
keybase: jekyll
rss: rss
```
### Enabling Google Analytics
To enable Google Analytics, add the following lines to your `_config.yml`:
```yml
oscailte:
google_analytics: UA-NNNNNNNN-N
```
Google Analytics will only appear in production, i.e., `JEKYLL_ENV=production`
Oscailte will also inform Google Analytics of your user's request for DNT.
### Enabling Excerpts on the Home Page
To display post-excerpts on the Home Page, simply add the following to your `_config.yml`:
```yaml
show_excerpts: true
```
## Customising Oscailte
### Site Colours
Oscailte makes extensive use of [CSS Custom Properties](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/--*)
for various parts of its look and feel. A full list of the properties used throughout can
be found in [`/_sass/_oscailte.scss`](./_sass/_oscailte.scss#L40). _Some_ of these
properties are generated via SCSS (such as typography), but are still Custom Properties
in-browser (not Sass variables).
