Template Details

Tail is a Jekyll blog theme. The author states that it is heavily based on the Tale theme, with minor fixes and underlying changes made on top of it, with the goal of making the blog easier to maintain.

In terms of usage, the theme emphasizes the writing workflow: if you already have a large number of `*.md` files, fork the theme, make a few changes to `_config.yml`, then copy the files into the `_posts` directory to start blogging.

Compared with Tale, Tail adds dark mode, support for posts whose filenames do not contain `YYYY-MM-DD`, search based on Pagefind, pop-up footnotes, Obsidian-compatible bidirectional wiki-style links, and comments implemented via email.

Features inherited from Tale with minor updates include: simple installation, GitHub Pages compatibility, responsive design, post pagination, pinned posts, and tag and excerpt management.

Regarding licensing, the repository uses the MIT license, allowing free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version of the code; when distributing, the copyright notice and license notice must be retained. Third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons need to be checked separately for licensing, and external services such as domains and hosting may incur separate charges.

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies Jekyll as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.
