Template Details

hugo-theme-spartan is a Hugo theme developed by its author after failing to find a content-focused minimal theme that matched their aesthetic. It targets small blogs and personal websites, with a simple page structure and all styling implemented in TailwindCSS. Because content display is prioritized, the README explicitly states that it may not support all Hugo features. The theme provides a responsive layout usable on desktop, ultrawide, tablet, and mobile; dark mode switches automatically based on operating system settings; for SEO, it supports modifying OpenGraph tags, meta tags, descriptions, and card data. The repository includes an exampleSite directory with sample posts and configuration files that can serve as a setup reference. The project is MIT-licensed and may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free, but third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons require separate license verification.

Must comply with when using

  • The code of this version may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free.

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

# Hugo Spartan Theme
A clean and minimal theme for [Hugo](https://gohugo.io/), designed for small blogs and personal websites.

I built this theme as I wanted a minimal theme, that focused on content and I couldn't find any that matched the look and feel I wanted. As it is focused on content, it may not support all Hugo features. I love [TailwindCSS](https://tailwindcss.com), so it's no surprise I've used that for all its styling goodness.

1. **Clean and minimal:** very lightweight, scores 100% on all Google Lighthouse tests.
1. **Responsive:** works great on desktop, ultrawides, tablets and mobiles.
1. **Dark Mode:** Automatically switches to a dark theme, based on the operating system settings.
1. **Good SEO support:** Able to change OpenGraph tags, meta tags, description and card data.
