Template Details

LatentFolio Free is an Astro portfolio starter template created and maintained by Dharani Eswaramurthi, positioned as "evidence-first" and aimed at AI, ML, and GenAI engineers. It organizes content into sections such as hero, project snapshots, expertise, experience, writing, education, and contact, guiding authors to explain the problem behind the work, engineering decisions, evaluation methods, and results, rather than merely listing the tech stack.

The template is a single-page structure that includes an interactive hero demo implemented with lightweight browser JavaScript, as well as a persistent light/dark theme that follows system preference. The page handles responsive layout, keyboard operation, visible focus, and reduced motion preferences; it also outputs canonical links, Open Graph and X metadata, JSON-LD, sitemap, robots file, and llms.txt. Profile and portfolio content are maintained centrally in src/data/site.ts.

The project is a static Astro output with self-hosted fonts and a GitHub Actions build check. The repository also explains the differences between the free and Pro versions: the free version is a single-page starter template, while the Pro version offers separate evidence-based case study pages, a three-mode AI systems lab, and richer modules. The people, employers, projects, and metrics in the demo are fictional and must be replaced before publishing.

Usage requirements are Node.js 22.12 or higher and npm 10 or higher. The code is MIT licensed and may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free, provided the copyright and license notice are retained; third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons must be checked separately under their respective licenses, and external services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

AstroPortfolio

Is it right for your project?

Use Cases

  • AI, ML, or GenAI engineers building a personal portfolio to present projects through problems, decisions, evaluations, and results
  • Job applications or external introductions requiring a single page showing personal profile, project snapshots, expertise, experience, writing, and education background
  • Deploying as a static site to static hosting platforms such as Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare Pages, or GitHub Pages
  • Personal sites needing light/dark themes, responsive layout, and basic accessibility support (keyboard operation, visible focus, reduced motion)

Suitable For

  • Engineers and technical practitioners in AI, machine learning, and generative AI
  • Developers who prefer Astro and static site output and want to self-host fonts and content
  • Maintainers who need centralized management of profile and portfolio content (src/data/site.ts)
  • Users who accept replacing all fictional sample content before publishing

Getting started & customization

Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.

  1. 1

Requires Node.js 22.12 or higher and npm 10 or higher

  2. 2

Local start: npm install then npm run dev; production checks: npm run build and npm run preview

  3. 3

Replace the fictional profile, projects, experience, skills, writing, and education content in src/data/site.ts

  4. 4

Replace public/avatar-placeholder.svg, public/resume-placeholder.pdf, public/og-cover.svg, and public/og-cover.png, and update the favicon and web manifest

  5. 5

Set SITE_URL to the public production domain in the deployment environment, then redeploy so canonical links and social metadata use the production address

Usage conditions & limitations

Free to use · keep license notice

This entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is the code of this version and does not mean external services or third-party assets are free.

Must comply with when using

  • The code of this version may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free.
  • When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
  • The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.

Additional costs & items to verify

  • Publishing content restriction: do not publish unverifiable claims or metrics; if the work is confidential, describe the evaluation method instead and use approved ranges or qualitative results.
  • Demo content restriction: the people, employers, projects, and metrics in the template are fictional and must all be replaced with real content before publishing.
  • Third-party asset restriction: licenses for third-party assets such as images, fonts, and icons must be checked separately in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md; the MIT license does not cover these assets.
  • Pro version restriction: the Pro version uses a commercial single-user license and is a paid upgrade not included in the free version's MIT license.
  • Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked under their respective licenses and cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
  • External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies Astro as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.
