Template Details
freshPink is a Hugo blog theme; the repository describes it as "mininal blog theme - hugo". The theme is installed via Hugo Modules. The README's procedure is: create a new Hugo site, run hugo mod init, configure [module] in hugo.toml to import github.com/elecbrandy/freshpink, then run hugo mod tidy to fetch the theme files. The README notes that Hugo v0.110+ extended is required, and the configuration example's module.hugoVersion requires extended with a minimum of 0.116.0.
The theme's configuration is centralized under [params] in hugo.toml. You can set primaryColor for the primary color, mainImageUrl and showMainImage to control the homepage main image, githubUsername and showGithubChart to control the homepage GitHub contribution graph, googleAnalytics for the analytics ID, copyright for the footer copyright, and math to toggle KaTeX math rendering. Menus are defined via [[menus.main]]. The README states that after the 2025.11.11 update the navigation bar can be modified dynamically, and it provides steps to add a new section (such as projects): first create a folder with the same name under content/, then add the corresponding menu item in hugo.toml.
The theme is released under the MIT license, permitting free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version of the code; when distributing, the copyright notice and the full MIT license notice must be retained. Third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons must be checked against their respective licenses; external services such as domains and hosting may incur separate charges.

Usage conditions & limitations
Free to use · keep license noticeThis entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is this version of the code and does not mean that external services or third-party assets are free.
Must comply with when using
- Permits free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version of the code.
- When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
- The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.
Additional costs & items to verify
- The homepage GitHub contribution graph depends on the githubUsername configuration; a valid GitHub username must be provided to correctly fetch and display contribution data.
- Enabling site analytics requires providing your own Google Analytics tracking ID; this is an external service and may involve account and data compliance requirements.
- The theme is fetched from GitHub via Hugo Modules; installation and updates depend on network access to the GitHub repository.
- The Hugo extended version must be used and must be no lower than 0.116.0; the standard version or lower versions cannot build properly.
- Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked against their respective licenses; they cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
- External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.
What to verify for this project

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.
The catalog identifies Hugo as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

## 🛠️ Fix — 2025.11.11
The navigation bar can now be dynamically modified, and the header can be freely configured through the `hugo.toml` file!
#### step 01. Create the Content Folder
First, you need to create a folder for your new section's content.
1. Go to your project's `content/` directory.
2. Create a new folder named after your section. For example, to create a "Projects" page, make a folder called `content/projects`.
3. You can add Markdown files (`.md`) inside this new folder to fill it with content. (Using `_index.md` is common for the main page of a section).
#### step 02. Add the Menu Item to `hugo.toml`
Next, open your `hugo.toml` file and add a new menu entry. This will make the "Projects" link appear in your site's navigation.
Add the following block to your `hugo.toml` -> `projects` menu (new!)
``` toml
[[menus.main]]
name = 'Home'
pageRef = '/'
weight = 10
[[menus.main]]
name = 'TAGS'
pageRef = '/tags/'
weight = 20
[[menus.main]]
name = 'PROJECTS'
pageRef = '/projects/'
weight = 50
```
- `name`: The text that will show up in the menu.
- `pageRef`: The URL for the link. This **must** match the folder you created in step 1.
- `weight`: This controls the order of your menu items. A higher number (like `50`) will appear after items with a lower number (like `10` or `20`).
<br>
<br>
## Demo Site
Check out the [**Demo Site**](https://elecbrandy.github.io/freshpink/) for an example and detailed instructions.
This guide walks you through applying the freshpink theme to a new Hugo site using **Hugo Modules** — the recommended modern way to manage themes.
<br>
<br>
## How to use
#### 1. Create a New Hugo Site
```bash
hugo new site myblog
cd myblog
```
<br>
#### 2. Initialize Hugo Modules
```bash
hugo mod init github.com/yourname/myblog
```
Replace `yourname/myblog` with your GitHub path (or any unique identifier).
That means the repository address that you will host through GitHub. In my case, I made it `hugo mod init github.com/elecbrandy/elecbrandy.github.io`.
<br>
#### 3. Update `hugo.toml`
Open the generated `hugo.toml` file and **replace its contents completely** with the configuration below. Then, update it with your own information:
* `baseURL`: Enter the URL of your GitHub repository (e.g. `https://elecbrandy.github.io/`)
* `title`: Choose the name you want for your blog
* `githubUsername`: Your GitHub username — this is required to display your contribution graph (grass) on the homepage
* `googleAnalytics`: (Optional) If you want to use Google Analytics, add your tracking ID here
* 👀 Important: **Do not add or define a `theme` field.** We're using Hugo Modules to manage the theme, so this must be left out.
* The [module] section below is what tells Hugo to fetch the freshPink theme. Make sure this part is included!
``` toml
baseURL = 'https://example.org/' # your git repository address
title = 'freshpink' # your own blog title
languageCode = 'en-us'
canonifyURLs = true
[[menus.main]]
name = 'Home'
pageRef = '/'
weight = 10
[[menus.main]]
name = 'TAGS'
pageRef = '/tags/'
weight = 20
[[menus.main]]
name = 'ABOUT'
pageRef = '/about/'
weight = 30
[module]
[module.hugoVersion]
extended = true
min = "0.116.0"
[[module.imports]]
path = "github.com/elecbrandy/freshpink" # important!
[params]
googleAnalytics = "G-000000000" # Your Google Analytics tracking ID
primaryColor = "#ec42ff" # Primary theme color (hex code)
githubUsername = "elecbrandy" # GitHub username for contribution chart
showGithubChart = true # Set to true to display the GitHub contributions chart
math = true
copyright = 'Copyright © 2024 elecbrandy'
[taxonomies]
tag = 'tags'
[markup]
[markup.goldmark]
[markup.goldmark.renderer]
unsafe = true
```
<br>
#### 4. Install and Fetch the Theme
Now, run the following command. Hugo will automatically detect the theme from your hugo.toml and download the necessary files. This command initializes the modules and downloads the theme files to your local cache.
``` bash
hugo mod tidy
```
<br>
#### 5. Create Your First Post
```bash
hugo new posts/hello.md
```
<br>
#### 6. Run the Local Server
```bash
hugo server -D
```
Then open (local check) -> [http://localhost:1313](http://localhost:1313)
You should see your blog styled with the **freshpink** theme! 🎉
<br>
<br>
## Update Guide
To update the theme to the latest version, run the following command in the root of your Hugo project.
```bash
hugo mod tidy
hugo mod get -u
```
This command will fetch the latest version of the theme from its repository.
<br>
<br>
