hugo-theme-vng-blue is a Hugo blog theme published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is designed around structured blog content: posts can be organized by categories and tags, the tag page supports filtering with URL state, and categories are shown as a collapsible sidebar list. The homepage provides a configurable event section that can be placed at the top, bottom, or hidden, with an option to keep or remove the bottom logo. The theme includes over 30 social network icons, covering X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, GitHub, as well as Signal, Substack, Threads, WeChat, Viber, VK, and others. Individual post pages can integrate Giscus comments. The theme supports responsive layout, a hamburger menu, and HiDPI images, and includes tabbed section content for the about page. Installation options include Hugo Modules and Git submodule, and configuration examples can be found in the author's demo project repository.

Usage conditions & limitations
Free to use · keep license noticeThis entry covers the free version in the public repository under the MIT license; the free scope applies to that version's code and does not imply that external services or third-party assets are free.
Must comply with when using
- Free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version's code are permitted.
- When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
- The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.
Additional costs & items to verify
- When installing the theme via Hugo Modules, a local Go language environment must be installed first; otherwise, the theme cannot be fetched via hugo mod commands.
- The comment feature depends on the third-party service Giscus; you must register with Giscus and fill in the repository, category, and other configuration yourself. Comment data is hosted on GitHub Discussions and is not a backend provided by the theme.
- Enabling Giscus comments requires providing your own GitHub repository and repository ID, category name, and category ID; comments are unavailable if not configured.
- Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked against their respective licenses; the code's MIT license alone is not sufficient to determine their terms.
- External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.
What to verify for this project
- Repository update recorded
- 2026-09-25

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.
The catalog identifies Hugo as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

hugo mod init github.com/your-username/your-site
```
Add the theme to your site configuration.
`hugo.toml`:
```toml
theme = ["github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue"]
[module]
[[module.imports]]
path = "github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue"
```
`hugo.yaml`:
```yaml
theme:
- github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue
module:

```
Then fetch the theme:
```bash
hugo mod get github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue
```
To update the theme later:
```bash
hugo mod get -u github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue
```
> Hugo Modules require [Go](https://go.dev/dl/) to be installed.
### Git submodule
```bash
git submodule add https://github.com/ismd/hugo-theme-vng-blue.git themes/vng-blue
```
## Configuration
See [demo project configuration](https://github.com/ismd/demo-hugo-theme-vng-blue) for example of configuration.
### Home page
It's possible to configure different styles for the home page. The following parameters are available:
```yaml
homeEventPosition: "top" # "top" or "bottom" or "none"
homeToBlogText: "To blog"
```
#### Screenshots
homeEventPosition: "top"
homeEventPosition: "bottom"
homeEventPosition: "none"
You can also hide the bottom logo on the home page. To do this, remove the `assets/home-logo-bottom.png` file. It will look like this:
homeEventPosition: "top"
homeEventPosition: "none"
### Comments
The theme supports Giscus comments on single post pages:
```yaml
giscus:
enable: true
custom_script_inline: |
<script src="https://giscus.app/client.js"
data-repo="[ENTER REPO HERE]"
data-repo-id="[ENTER REPO ID HERE]"
data-category="[ENTER CATEGORY NAME HERE]"
data-category-id="[ENTER CATEGORY ID HERE]"
data-mapping="pathname"
data-strict="0"
data-reactions-enabled="1"
data-emit-metadata="0"
data-input-position="bottom"
data-theme="preferred_color_scheme"
data-lang="en"
crossorigin="anonymous"
async>
</script>
```
## Images
This theme supports HiDPI displays, which means you should provide images at double resolution for better quality. All sizes below are the target HiDPI resolutions.
### Home page
On the home page there are two images: `home-logo-top.png` and `home-logo-bottom.png`. Their sizes can be different, but the optimal ones are:
1. The top one: 1600x530
2. The bottom one: 2080x470
### Logos
There are two logos:
1. In the top-left corner of every page — the size of the logo can be anything, but 320x100 is recommended
2. In the right sidebar on every page except the home page — the size **must be** at least 440x440 px
Put all of these files in the `assets` directory of your site.
