Template Details

This is an Astro starter template for content-driven sites. The repository provides a generic example project and does not include personal, company, or production site data. The template includes a documented visual system with theme switching via semantic tokens, offering 10 replaceable color schemes by default that can be changed with one click in the theme switcher or fixed to a single theme in configuration. For content, it uses Astro Content Layer and MDX for blog posts, with RSS feed and sitemap support. Routes include the homepage, blog list and detail pages, design documentation browsing pages, component and token reference pages, and RSS output. The project structure organizes components, configuration, content, layouts, pages, and styles into separate directories for easy replacement as needed. Before building, PUBLIC_SITE_URL must be set; it affects canonical links, sitemap, RSS, and Open Graph metadata.

Usage conditions & limitations

Free to use · keep license notice

This entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is the code of this version and does not mean external services or third-party assets are free.

Must comply with when using

  • Free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version's code are permitted.
  • When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
  • The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.

Additional costs & items to verify

  • Before building, the environment variable PUBLIC_SITE_URL must be set to the final deployment address; otherwise canonical links, sitemap, RSS, and Open Graph metadata will point to the wrong address.
  • The official demo address is only for theme directory review; if used for your own site, you must create a separate deployment after customization and should not directly reuse that demo address.
  • Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked under their respective licenses and cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
  • External services such as domain, hosting, database, payment, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies Astro as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

## Themes

The starter ships with 10 swappable theme palettes. They all override the same semantic tokens, so every component keeps working while the mood of the site changes. Retro Blue is the default; the rest are one click away in the theme switcher.

## Stack

- Astro 7 and TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS v4 with `@tailwindcss/vite`
- Astro Content Layer, MDX, RSS, and sitemap
- Sharp for local image processing

## Quick start

```bash
pnpm install
pnpm dev
```

The local server runs at `http://localhost:5200`.

## Customize the template

Start with these files. The checked-in values are intentional generic examples, not a real site configuration.

| Location | Change here |
| --- | --- |
| `src/config/site.js` | Site title, canonical URL, SEO metadata, and source link |
| `src/config/themes.js` | Default theme, available theme packs, and semantic tokens |
| `src/styles/global.css` and `src/styles/themes.css` | Base typography and CSS token overrides |
| `src/content/post/` | Sample MDX posts and frontmatter |
| `docs/DESIGN.md` | Visual-system rules for people and coding agents |
| `src/pages/index.astro` | Starter home-page sections and copy |

To use a single fixed theme in a production project, set `showThemeSwitcher` and `persistUserSelection` to `false` in `src/config/themes.js` after choosing `defaultThemeId`.

## Routes

| Route | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| `/` | Generic starter overview |
| `/blog` | Sample MDX article listing |
| `/blog/[slug]` | Individual article |
| `/design` | Browser view of the design documentation |
| `/elements` | Component and token reference |
| `/rss.xml` | RSS feed |

## Project structure

```text
public/assets/        Replaceable generic images
src/components/       Reusable sections, cards, UI, and widgets
src/config/           Site and theme configuration
src/layouts/          Shared page layouts and metadata
src/pages/            Astro routes
src/styles/           Global, theme, and article styles
```

## Build and deploy

```bash
pnpm build
pnpm preview
```

Set `PUBLIC_SITE_URL` to the final deployment URL before building. It controls canonical URLs, the sitemap, RSS, and Open Graph metadata. The official demo uses `https://ricoui-astro-starter.vercel.app/`; deploy this repository unchanged there for theme-directory review, then create a separate deployment after customizing it for your own site.
