Template Details

This is a Laravel project starter maintained by roonyx-tech, intended to reuse common Docker configuration and development workflows when creating new Laravel projects. The repository describes itself as a Docker Laravel 8.x Starter Kit and uses the MIT license. The public repository can be used, modified, and distributed for free, but third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons require separate license verification, and external services such as domains, hosting, and databases may incur additional charges.

The project organizes application containers through docker-compose and provides a Makefile as the entry point for common commands. In addition to the main application container, it includes a supervisor container for running queues and a scheduler container that works with crontab to handle scheduled tasks. The README explains how to add PHP extensions: the main application container corresponds to ./Dockerfile, the supervisor container corresponds to ./docker/supervizor/supervizor.Dockerfile, and the scheduler container corresponds to ./docker/scheduler/scheduler.Dockerfile.

The initialization process includes copying .env from .env.example, running make up-build-d to build and start, entering the PHP container to run composer install, generating the application key and clearing the cache, and finally running migrations and seed data through run-updates.sh. Testing and code checks are performed through commands such as make unit, make unit-coverage, make unit-feature, and make lint, with noVerify used as the linter. Windows environments require additional installation of make and Cygwin to provide sh. The repository was last updated in 2021 and does not provide a dependency list, so specific framework versions or production readiness are not confirmed here.

LaravelStarter

Is it right for your project?

Use Cases

  • When creating a new Laravel project, you want to directly reuse a Docker and Makefile development environment
  • You need to run the web application, MySQL database, queue worker, and scheduled tasks locally at the same time
  • The team wants to standardize initialization steps, including dependency installation, key generation, migrations, and seed data
  • Run unit tests, coverage statistics, and noVerify code checks inside containers

Suitable For

  • Developers using Laravel who want to set up a local development environment with Docker
  • Laravel projects that need queue and scheduled task container configuration
  • Development teams that prefer to standardize common commands with a Makefile

Getting started & customization

Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.

  1. 1

    Copy .env from .env.example, then run make up-build-d to build and start the containers

  2. 2

    Enter the PHP container to run composer install, and run php artisan key:generate and php artisan optimize:clear

  3. 3

    Run sh run-updates.sh to run database migrations and seed data

  4. 4

    On Windows, additionally install make and Cygwin to provide sh, and add the path to the user environment variables

  5. 5

    To add PHP extensions, modify the corresponding Dockerfile: ./Dockerfile for the main application, ./docker/supervizor/supervizor.Dockerfile for supervisor, and ./docker/scheduler/scheduler.Dockerfile for scheduler

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies Laravel as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

# About
Docker Laravel 8.x Starter Kit was created as a way to save time when starting a new Laravel based project. We have taken the most common functionality and configuration in our existing Laravel projects, and put those into this project. Simply clone this project, and change the git remote to your remote repository. Docker Laravel Starter Kit is ready to start with docker-compose.

## How to add php extensions
See the
```./Dockerfile```
to supplement the main application container
See the
```./docker/supervizor/supervizor.Dockerfile```
to improve the supervizor container. A supervisor working with the queue is started in this container.

This container
```./docker/scheduler/scheduler.Dockerfile```
working with ```./crontab```
## To work with containers
#### Check the Database
```
$ make console-mysql
$ mysql -uroot -p
```
Enter the DB password and choose DB
```
$ use mydb
```
Now you can make db queries.
#### To Enter to the php container
```$ make console-php```

To check all the commands see ```./Makefile```

Also you can improve ```./build-updates.sh``` and ```./run-updates.sh``` scripts

## Tests and Lints
#### To Run unit tests
- To run the unit tests

```$ make unit```
- To show the coverage
```make unit-coverage```
- To run specified test suite

```make unit-feature```
#### To Lint the files
- To lint the files
```make lint```
- To show list of checkers

```make lint-checkers```
- To get noVerify linter version
```make lint-v```
- To generate markdown checkers documentation

```make lint-checkers-doc```
