Template Details

AgentShip Lite is a SaaS starter template designed to be extended by AI coding agents, built on Next.js, Tailwind, and TypeScript with Supabase as the backend. The free version provides email magic-link authentication and session middleware, an RLS-protected profiles table with migration scripts, a protected dashboard, and a full set of "agent-ready" files: AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md working rules, step-by-step playbooks in the playbooks directory, and a scripts/verify.sh type-check and build verification script. The README's quick start takes about 15 minutes and requires creating your own Supabase project, running the migration, enabling email sign-in, and manually changing the magic-link email template to the token_hash form; otherwise, opening the link in a different browser or on a phone may bounce the user back to the login page.

The template is positioned so that agents such as Claude Code and Cursor work within existing conventions and safety rules rather than guessing the project structure from scratch. The free version does not include Stripe subscription checkout, signature-verified webhooks, or plan gating; these belong to the paid Pro version, which also comes with a commercial license. The code itself is MIT-licensed and may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free, but third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons, as well as external services such as Supabase, hosting, and payments, require separate license and cost checks.

Next.jsSaaSStarter

Is it right for your project?

Use Cases

  • Building a SaaS project skeleton from a prompt with an AI coding agent
  • Needing a Next.js + Supabase starting point with email sign-in and a protected dashboard
  • Wanting a project that ships with agent-readable architecture notes, safety rules, and verification scripts
  • Using it as a sample project for learning Supabase RLS and magic-link authentication

Suitable For

  • Independent developers who are used to working with agents such as Claude Code and Cursor
  • Small teams that need to validate a SaaS idea quickly and do not yet need payment features
  • Developers who accept configuring Supabase and hosting services themselves

Getting started & customization

Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.

  1. 1

    Run npm install and copy .env.example to .env.local

  2. 2

    Create a Supabase project, fill in the URL and anon key, run the 0001_profiles.sql migration, and enable email magic links

  3. 3

    In the Supabase email template, change the magic link to the token_hash form to avoid sign-in failures when the link is opened in a different browser

  4. 4

    After npm run dev, sign in from /login and enter the protected /dashboard

  5. 5

    When deploying to Vercel, configure the same environment variables

Usage conditions & limitations

Free to use · keep license notice

This entry covers the free version in the public repository under the MIT license; the free scope is the code of this version and does not mean that external services or third-party assets are free.

Must comply with when using

  • The code of this version may be used, modified, commercialized, and distributed for free.
  • When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
  • The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.

Additional costs & items to verify

  • The free Lite version does not include Stripe subscription checkout, signature-verified webhooks, or plan gating; these features are available only in the paid Pro version ($99).
  • Using the template requires registering and configuring your own Supabase project and filling in the URL and anon key, which is an external service dependency.
  • Email magic-link sign-in must be enabled manually in Supabase; otherwise, authentication will not work.
  • The Supabase magic-link email template must be manually changed to the token_hash form; otherwise, opening the link in a different browser or on a phone will fail to sign in.
  • Deploying to Vercel requires configuring the same environment variables yourself, and the hosting service may incur costs.
  • The Pro version uses a commercial license that allows unlimited projects but prohibits reselling it as a starter template; the free Lite version is MIT-licensed.
  • The project materials mention optional paid versions or features; this entry covers only the public free code and does not include paid upgrades.
  • Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked against their respective licenses and cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
  • External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur separate charges.

How this score is calculated

Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.

The catalog identifies Next.js as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

# AgentShip Lite

**A free, open-source Next.js 16 + Supabase starter built to be extended by AI coding agents.**
*By [Sortie Labs](https://sortielabs.gumroad.com/l/yofswq) — small studio shipping tools for people who build with AI.*

You're going to build your SaaS by prompting Claude Code, Cursor, or another agent anyway.
Generic starters fight that — undocumented conventions, security rules that live in the
founder's head, no way for the agent to check its own work. AgentShip is structured for it.

This is the **free Lite edition**: auth, database, and the full agent-readiness layer.
Stripe billing and the billing playbooks are in **[AgentShip Pro →](https://sortielabs.gumroad.com/l/yofswq)**.

> ⭐ **If this saves you time, star the repo** — it helps other builders find it.

## Quickstart (~15 min)

1. `npm install && cp .env.example .env.local`
2. Create a free Supabase project → paste URL + anon key into `.env.local` → run
   `supabase/migrations/0001_profiles.sql` in the SQL editor → enable Email (magic link).
3. **Fix the magic-link email template** (don't skip): Authentication → Email Templates →
   *Magic Link* → change the link to
   ```
   {{ .SiteURL }}/auth/callback?token_hash={{ .TokenHash }}&type=email
   ```
   The default `{{ .ConfirmationURL }}` uses a PKCE code that only works in the same browser
   that requested it — users who tap the email on their phone (or whose mail app opens an
   in-app browser) get bounced back to the login screen. The `token_hash` link works anywhere.
4. `npm run dev`, sign in at `/login`, land on the protected `/dashboard`. To properly test
   the magic link, open it in a *different* browser than the one you requested it from.
5. Ship: `vercel` (add the same env vars in Vercel).

## Why "agent-ready"?

- **`AGENTS.md` / `CLAUDE.md`** — working rules your agent follows: architecture map, security hard rules, async-params gotchas.
- **`playbooks/`** — step-by-step recipes written as agent prompts.
- **`scripts/verify.sh`** — one command the agent rules require after every change, so regressions surface immediately.
- **Security in the structure** — RLS on by default, server-side auth checks, secrets never exposed to the client.
