Template Details
This is a Next.js starter template for the Vertex 3D platform, intended for building prototype applications that integrate with the Vertex platform. The template demonstrates three basic capabilities: viewing scenes, applying camera states, and viewing metadata for scene items. The README states that it is written according to best practices for Vertex platform integration and points to official guides to help developers set up the foundation first before extending functionality on their own.
The project structure is clear: public/ holds static assets, and src/ is divided into components (page components), lib (shared libraries and utilities), pages (Next.js pages), and pages/api (Next.js API endpoints).
There are two ways to run it. Docker approach: copy .env.local.template to .env.local and modify as needed, run docker-compose --file ./docker-compose.yml up to start, and visit http://localhost:3000; after pulling code changes, rebuild before running up again. Local development approach: likewise prepare .env.local first, run yarn install to install dependencies, then run yarn dev to start the development server. To debug with a local vertex-web-sdk, run yarn build and yarn link in vertex-web-sdk, modify the dev script and resolutions in package.json to point to the local package, then run yarn install again.
For deployment, the README lists three options: Vercel, Netlify, and deploying to AWS via OpenNext. The repository uses the MIT license, allowing free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version of the code, but third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons must be checked separately for licensing, and external services such as domains and hosting may incur separate charges.
Is it right for your project?
Use Cases
- As a starting point for prototype applications integrating the Vertex 3D platform
- Running locally or in Docker and browsing Vertex scene examples
- Extending custom API endpoints based on the pages/api directory
- Linking a local vertex-web-sdk for component debugging
Suitable For
- Developers who need to quickly build Vertex platform prototype applications
- Frontend teams using Next.js and React
- Projects looking to reference Vertex platform integration practices
Getting started & customization
Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.
- 1
Copy .env.local.template to .env.local and modify the values as needed
- 2
Docker run: docker-compose --file ./docker-compose.yml up, visit http://localhost:3000
- 3
Local development: yarn install then run yarn dev
- 4
After pulling code changes, run docker-compose build again before up
- 5
When linking a local vertex-web-sdk, modify the dev script and resolutions in package.json and run yarn install again

Usage conditions & limitations
Free to use · keep license noticeThis entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is the code of this version and does not mean external services or third-party assets are free.
Must comply with when using
- Free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version of the code are permitted.
- When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
- The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.
Additional costs & items to verify
- Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked under their respective licenses and cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
- External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur separate charges.
- This template is a starter template for the Vertex platform and must be used with the Vertex platform; features such as viewing scenes, camera states, and metadata depend on a Vertex platform account and SDK.
- The README positions it as a starting point for prototype applications, requiring developers to extend functionality according to official guides; it is not a complete product ready for launch.
- Before running, the .env.local environment variable file must be copied and configured, which may involve external service configuration such as Vertex platform credentials.
- To debug with a local vertex-web-sdk, the external SDK repository must first be built and linked, which is an additional external dependency step.

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.
The catalog identifies Next.js as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

Use our starter application template using the NextJS framework.
View a scene, apply camera states, and see a scene item's metadata. We built this application following best practices for integrating the Vertex platform. [Follow our guide](http://developer.vertex3d.com/docs/guides/build-your-first-app) to build a foundation, then add functionality to create your own prototype application using Vertex.
## Run locally in Docker
1. Copy `.env.local.template` to `.env.local` and optionally edit values
1. Run `docker-compose --file ./docker-compose.yml up` to start the app locally
1. Browse to http://localhost:3000
If you pull down changes, you'll need to run `docker-compose --file ./docker-compose.yml build` to build them and then `docker-compose --file ./docker-compose.yml up` again.
## Local development
1. Copy `.env.local.template` to `.env.local` and optionally edit values
1. Install dependencies, `yarn install`
1. Run `yarn dev` to start the local development server
1. Browse to http://localhost:3000
### With Vertex-web-sdk
1. `yarn build` in `vertex-web-sdk`
1. `yarn link` from local `vertex-web-sdk`
1. make these changes in package.json
