Template Details
This is a Gatsby starter for blogs and content sites that can also be installed as a Gatsby theme via npm into an existing project. Posts and pages are written in Markdown or MDX, with code syntax highlighting, tag grouping, and multilingual (i18n) support for blog posts. Site information, navigation links, posts per page, Disqus shortname, and similar settings are configured centrally in data/siteConfig.js.
The template includes a responsive layout and dark mode, provides PWA-related support (offline and manifest), and can generate social preview images for posts. Comments are integrated through Disqus, and styling uses styled-components with a css-in-js approach. The repository also includes eslint, prettier, and Travis CI configuration.
Two usage notes: when installed as a theme, an image named baymax.png must be placed under content/images; this is a limitation of the theme itself, and the image is not displayed on the site. Also, if deploying with a path prefix, the build command must include --prefix-paths. Third-party assets such as demo images, fonts, and icons must be checked separately under their respective licenses.
Is it right for your project?
Use Cases
- Building a static blog with Markdown/MDX as the content source
- Introducing blog functionality as a theme into an existing Gatsby project
- Content sites that need multilingual post display and dark mode
- Sites that want to integrate Disqus comments and organize posts with tags
Suitable For
- Front-end developers familiar with Gatsby and React
- Writers or teams needing a multilingual blog
- Users who plan to maintain content in Markdown/MDX and configure site information themselves
Getting started & customization
Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.
- 1
Obtain the starter with gatsby new or git clone, run npm install, then run npm run develop for local preview
- 2
To use it as a theme, run npm install gatsby-starter-morning-dew and add the corresponding configuration to plugins in gatsby-config.js
- 3
In theme mode, an image must be placed at content/images/baymax.png; this is a theme limitation, and the image does not appear on the site
- 4
When deploying with a path prefix, the build command must include --prefix-paths
- 5
Generating post preview images requires running npm run dev first, then npm run generatePostPreviewImages
License & source material
Usage conditions & limitations
Free to use · keep license noticeThis entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is the code of that version and does not mean external services or third-party assets are free.
Must comply with when using
- You may use, modify, commercialize, and distribute the code of this version for free.
- When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
- The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.
Additional costs & items to verify
- When installed as a Gatsby theme, an image must be placed at content/images/baymax.png; this is a limitation of the theme itself, and the image does not appear on the site.
- If the site is deployed with a path prefix (pathPrefix), the build command must include the --prefix-paths parameter; otherwise links and asset paths will be incorrect.
- Before generating social preview images for posts, npm run dev must be running; otherwise the command cannot generate preview images properly.
- The comment feature depends on the external Disqus service; you must configure your own Disqus shortname in siteConfig and are subject to Disqus terms of service.
- Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked under their respective licenses and cannot be judged solely by the code's MIT license.
- External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

A demo link is listed. Check it with your own content and viewport sizes; its presence does not confirm that forms, authentication or payments work.
The catalog identifies Gatsby as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.
