Template Details
This is a Django starter project. The repository description reads "Django Starter Project, including TailWindCSS and all other useful modules." The README states that the project is still in early development and welcomes contributions.
The project builds on Django and integrates several common modules: TailwindCSS for styling; Django Allauth for complete user authentication (login, logout, etc.); Django Compressor to bundle static files; Python Decouple to strictly separate configuration from code; and Django Crispy Forms with crispy-tailwind to generate forms with Tailwind styling. The README specifies Django 4.0 and Python 3.10 as the runtime environment.
The usage flow is: clone the repository, create a .venv virtual environment, install requirements.txt and tailwind dependencies, create config/local_settings.py and .env files (with DEBUG, ALLOWED_HOSTS, and SECRET_KEY), create an app and register it in INSTALLED_APPS, run makemigrations and migrate, and start the tailwind and Django local servers separately. Templates can extend base/_base.html. Form styling can be applied via {% load tailwind_filters %} with {{ form|crispy }}, or by using the {% crispy %} tag with FormHelper and Layout.
The README's Next Steps lists what is not yet included: a production web server (gunicorn), email backend configuration, admin security hardening, and django-allauth social login support. The project is MIT licensed.
Is it right for your project?
Use Cases
- Quickly building a Django-based project skeleton with user authentication
- Django projects that want to use TailwindCSS instead of Bootstrap on the front end
- Projects that need to separate configuration from code into .env and local_settings.py
- Projects that need to apply Tailwind styles directly in Django forms
Suitable For
- Developers familiar with the basic Django development workflow
- Personal or team projects that want to start from MIT-licensed code
- Projects that need built-in authentication flows such as login/logout
- Projects that use TailwindCSS as the styling solution
Getting started & customization
Use these recorded setup notes alongside the repository instructions for your chosen version.
- 1
After cloning the repository, create and activate a .venv virtual environment
- 2
Run pip install -r requirements.txt and python3 manage.py tailwind install
- 3
Create config/local_settings.py and .env, writing DEBUG, ALLOWED_HOSTS, and SECRET_KEY

Usage conditions & limitations
Free to use · keep license noticeThis entry covers the free version under the MIT license in the public repository; the free scope is the code of that version and does not imply that external services or third-party assets are free.
Must comply with when using
- Free use, modification, commercial use, and distribution of this version's code are permitted.
- When distributing copies or substantial portions of the code, retain the original author's copyright notice and the full MIT license notice.
- The code is provided as is; warranties and limitations of liability are governed by the original license and applicable law.
Additional costs & items to verify
- The project is still in early development; the README explicitly states it is not mature and should not be considered production-ready. Evaluate and improve it before using it in a formal project.
- The project does not include a production web server; the README lists adding gunicorn as a next step, so production deployment requires your own configuration.
- Email functionality is not configured; you need to update EMAIL_BACKEND and connect a third-party email service provider, which may incur external service fees.
- Django admin is not secure by default; the README recommends hardening it yourself, so follow the guidance to improve admin security before use.
- Social login is not enabled by default; to use it, you must configure django-allauth social authentication providers yourself, which may depend on external accounts and API credentials.
- You must generate and configure a SECRET_KEY yourself and write it into the .env file before running, otherwise the project will not start properly.
- Demo images, fonts, icons, and other third-party assets must be checked against their respective licenses; the code's MIT license alone is not sufficient to judge them.
- External services such as domains, hosting, databases, payments, or AI may incur additional charges.

How this score is calculated
Our heuristic uses license records (up to 30), a demo link (12), a preview (10), stars (15), recorded maintenance (15), description completeness (8), feature records (5) and classification data (5). It is not a code, security or performance test, or a Google score. A link does not establish tested functionality.

No demo link is recorded. Use the repository instructions to evaluate the project locally; the screenshot alone cannot establish interactive behavior.
The catalog identifies Django as the primary stack. Check the actual dependency manifest and lockfile for versions and hosting requirements. These notes use recorded metadata, not a code audit or a deployment test.

## :scroll: How to Run
Clone the repository and follow the steps bellow:
### 1. Create a new virtual environment `.venv` for your project
```shell
virtualenv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate
```
### 2. Install the requirements
```shell
python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt
```
```shell
python3 manage.py tailwind install
```
### 3. Create both `./config/local_settings.py` and `.env` files and write the following contents in them
```shell
touch ./config/local_settings.py && touch .env
```
```python
# local_settings.py
DEBUG = True
ALLOWED_HOSTS = []
```
Generate a new Django `SECRET_KEY` using [Djecrety](https://djecrety.ir/) and paste it in the `.env` file in the root path of the project as follows
```shell
SECRET_KEY=<COPIED SECRET_KEY HERE>
```
### 4. Create an application
Create a new Django app in your project
```shell
python3 manage.py startapp myapp
```
> Append your local application to `INSTALLED_APPS` inside `settings.py`
#### Create your URL, Template and views
You can extend your templates from `base/_base.html`
### 5. Migrate :butterfly:
You need to create migration files (if you have any changes in your
models) and run `migrate` command to apply them.
```shell
python3 manage.py makemigrations
```
```shell
python3 manage.py migrate
```
### 6. Run your local server
Start TailWindCSS by running the following command in your terminal:
```shell
python3 manage.py tailwind start
```
Then you simply need to run Django's local server:
```shell
python3 manage.py runserver
```
### 7. Start Exploring :rocket:
That's all you need to do for having a ready-to-develop Django project with some :battery: included.
## :question: How to use Crispy Forms
Current version (crispy-tailwind/0.5) allows the `|crispy` filter to be used to style your
form. In your template:
1. Load the filter: `{% load tailwind_filters %}`
2. Apply the crispy filter: `{{ form|crispy }}`
You can also use the `{% crispy %}` tag to allow usage of crispy-forms'
`FormHelper` and `Layout`. In your template:
1. Load the crispy tag: `{% load crispy_forms_tags %}`
2. Add `FormHelper` to your form and use crispy-forms to set-up your form
3. Use the crispy tag `{% crispy form %}` in your template
